The Role
We’re seeking a highly relational, financially fluent professional who can build deep, trust-based relationships with donors capable of transformational giving. This role is ideal for someone who is equally comfortable discussing global impact and financial strategy, and who moves confidently within environments of wealth and influence. The Major Gifts Officer manages a focused portfolio of donors, corporate partners, and prospects who care deeply about global impact. This position is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships, advancing donors through a strategic and thoughtful engagement cycle.
This role partners closely with the Director of Development Operations and Executive Director
Responsibilities
Donor Engagement & Cultivation
- Manage and grow a portfolio of donors capable of major gifts
- Build individualized cultivation and stewardship plans for each donor and prospect
- Conduct meetings, make asks, and facilitate meaningful conversations that advance donor relationships
- Identify new major gift prospects through research, networks, and field engagement
- Represent Unseen with clarity, warmth, and professionalism in donor interactions
Strategic Planning & Collaboration
- Create annual portfolio strategies with clear objectives, timelines, and engagement plans
- Ensure donor engagement strategies reflect the needs, goals, and priorities of our frontline partners
Training & Capacity Building
- Contribute fundraising insight and donor psychology to internal teams
- Support the Program team through partner-facing fundraising training and knowledge sharing
- Strengthen Unseen’s internal capacity by helping shape tools, scripts, and processes that improve donor engagement
Portfolio & Pipeline Management
- Maintain accurate notes and documentation (with administrative support provided)
- Prepare meeting materials and follow up documentation (operations support provided)
- Track donor progression through moves management and partner with leadership on portfolio strategy
Organizational Representation
- Serve as a trusted ambassador of Unseen’s mission, values, and partners
- Participate in cross-team planning and organizational development initiatives
- Model ethical fundraising, donor centered communication, and relationship excellence
Ideal Candidate
- Strong emotional intelligence and exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable discussing financial strategies and major gifts.
- Background or familiarity with high-net-worth environments.
- Organized, disciplined, and skilled at note-taking and follow-up documentation.
- Collaborative, trustworthy, and deeply aligned with Unseen’s mission.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of major gifts, philanthropy, or high net worth relationship management experience
- Proven success cultivating and stewarding donors or relationships
- Experience in one on one donor or executive level conversations
- High emotional intelligence and ability to build trust quickly
- Confidence discussing wealth, philanthropy, strategy, and long term giving
- Understanding of donor motivations and wealth dynamics
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with planned giving or complex gifts
- Experience collaborating with senior leadership, boards, or leadership volunteers
- Background in international work, anti trafficking efforts, or humanitarian causes
- Experience training others in fundraising or donor engagement

Salary Range: $70,000 to $130,000 DOE
**Annual Bonus Opportunity: Up to 10 to 15 percent of base salary
Bonus structure is based on strategic activity, relationship quality, and values alignment, not on gift amounts or percentages.
